Augustine’s Journey
Augustine Kwadwo Attiah was born in Kumasi, Ghana, on September 7th, 1950. He passed away on February 24th, 2026, at the age of 75 in Dallas, Texas.
Augustine attended Okuapemman Secondary School and then Prempeh College in Ghana. He came to the U.S. as an exchange student for his senior year of high school in Crystal Lake, Illinois, in 1968. He was a 1975 graduate of the University of Chicago, gaining a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
He attended Washington University in St. Louis Medical School, from where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1979. He remained at Washington University for a three-year internal medicine residency. He then completed a two-year fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City in 1984.
Augustine moved to Dallas in 1984 and would go on to practice medicine for close to 40 years. He was primarily affiliated with the Methodist Hospital system in Dallas, beginning his practice in 1984. He worked at Charlton Methodist Hospital as a pulmonary and critical care physician in the hospital’s intensive care unit. His main private practice office was right across the street, on Bolton Boone Drive in Desoto. He left the Methodist system and became affiliated with the Baylor Health Care system from 2009 to 2012. He retired in 2020.
In his spare time, Augustine was an avid book collector and loved gardening. He is survived by his wife, Grace; three children, Karen, Mark, and Lauren Attiah; and two grandchildren, William and Amalie. He is also survived by numerous siblings, nephews, and nieces.
